A toasted sandwich maker works by using heated plates. These plates are heated by internal electrical coils. The plates clamp down over the sandwich, sealing in the filling and toasting the bread. Some machines even cut the finished sandwich in half for you. Most toasted sandwich makers produce two sandwiches (or toasties) at a time.
